Badacie Pisma, ponieważ sądzicie, że w nich zawarte jest życie wieczne: to one właśnie dają o Mnie świadectwo. A przecież nie chcecie przyjść do Mnie, aby mieć życie. Nie odbieram chwały od ludzi, ale poznałem was, że nie macie w sobie miłości Boga. Przyszedłem w imieniu Ojca mego, a nie przyjęliście Mnie. Gdyby jednak przybył ktoś inny we własnym imieniu, to przyjęlibyście go. Jak możecie uwierzyć, skoro od siebie wzajemnie odbieracie chwałę,
a nie szukacie chwały, która pochodzi od samego Boga?
Nie sądźcie jednak, że to Ja was oskarżę przed Ojcem. Waszym oskarżycielem jest Mojżesz, w którym wy pokładacie nadzieję. Gdybyście jednak wierzyli Mojżeszowi, to i Mnie wierzylibyście. O Mnie bowiem on pisał. Jeżeli jednak jego pismom nie wierzycie, jakżeż moim słowom będziecie wierzyli?»

Istotne jest to, co jest naszym życiowym punktem odniesienia. Kryteria oceny tego, co się zdarza są bardzo ważne. Nawet jako ludzie wierzący z trudem odwołujemy się do kryteriów religijnych, oceniając dziejące się wydarzenia. Słowa Jezusa mogą być pozytywnym wstrząsem i otrzeźwieniem...

To bardzo trudne. Chodzi o świadectwo życia, ale też o to, kto, lub co, jest źródłem naszego życia. O tym, kim jest Jezus, świadczyło to, co czynił: troska
o biednych, chorych, uzdrowienia, wskrzeszenia, rozmnożenia jedzenia, mądrość, pokora, szacunek do ludzi, umiłowanie prawdy. Ludzie wychodzili na drogi, posyłali innych, aby się o tym przekonać...

Potrzeba nam takiego chrześcijaństwa, którego praktykowanie prowokuje pytania o Boga, pokazuje, że źródłem życia jest On. Chodzi o to, aby ludzie, którzy chcą nas zweryfikować, widzieli naszą wzajemną miłość, jedność, pokój, przebaczenie, dzielenie i ducha służby, a nie wojny, wojenki, nienawiść, brak przebaczenia i pogardę innych…

Czasami kierujemy się pragnieniem własnej chwały, nie zważając na chwałę Bożą. To ogromne zagrożenie, zwłaszcza dla tych, którzy są blisko Boga i działają dla Niego. Uspokajając własne sumienie są przekonani, że robią coś dla Boga, a tak naprawdę zależy im na tym, by ich zauważono, pochwalono i doceniono...

Kreujemy siebie na kogoś, kim nie jesteśmy, bo chcemy pokazać innym, a przede wszystkim sobie, że jesteśmy ludźmi wartościowymi, że tak wiele w nas dobra, a potwierdzenia tego szukamy w opinii innych. Oszukujemy siebie, usypiamy naszą czujność. Koncentrujemy się na lansowaniu swojego dobra, by ukryć prawdę o sobie, a przecież prawda o nas wyzwala i czyni ludźmi wolnymi...

Jezus broni prawdziwości tego, że jest posłany przez Ojca. Zwróćmy uwagę na zarzut, jaki stawia swoim przeciwnikom: „Badacie Pisma, ponieważ sądzicie, że
w nich zawarte jest życie wieczne: to one właśnie dają o Mnie świadectwo. A przecież nie chcecie przyjść do Mnie, aby mieć życie”...

Przeciwnicy Jezusa znają Pisma i badają je. Ale mimo to nie rozpoznają w Nim tego, który w tych Pismach został zapowiedziany. To swoisty paradoks i wielka ślepota. Ponad to, co czytają, postawili swoje uprzedzenia. Dziś też można czytać Pismo Święte i widzieć w nim tylko potwierdzenie swoich przekonań...
